This is a joint book project of Fritz Laux (Reutlingen Univ.) and Avi Silberschatz (Yale Univ.) that started in late 2004. After an active time in 2005 where most of the chapters were drafted, we gradually shifted into a "creative pause". In 2008 Avi discussed the project with David Harel (Weizmann Institute of Science) who promised to act as "minor" co-author and proof-reader.

The chapters are pure draft. The figures are placeholders taken mostly from the web without reference as these will be replaced by drawings by the publisher's artist.

We invite everybody, namely our students, to comment, suggest ideas, and naturally report errors.
